Gina La Fornarina – Upper East Side Pizza

In my ever ongoing search to find the best pizza/pasta in the Upper East Side, P and I found ourselves at Gina La Fornarina one steamy summer afternoon. I had frequently walked by it, and had hoped to sit outside because of the lovely seating area, but it was just way too hot out!

GinaLaFornarina_penneputanescaDon’t adjust your screen, the reflection from the hot pink awning outside tinted all of my photos this lovely color of magenta, and I don’t like to alter my food pictures with filters and such so this is what we get unfortunately! I ordered the Penne Putanesca with Kalamata olives, capers, onion, and garlic which I thought would be nice and light for a hot summer day. {Yes I consider pasta a light dish :)}. It was a good dish of pasta, the sauce was sweet and tangy and the penne was al dente.

GinaLaFornarina_PizzaParmaP got his favorite, the pizza with prosciutto, and even gave me a bite. It was a thin crust with a good amount of prosciutto, and done in the Italian style, but nothing that blew me away.

The service left much to be desired, after the server gave us our food, we had to flag him down to try to find him. And it was completely not busy so there was no reason he should have ignored us. Also the bread was so not good, and for me an Italian restaurant has to have good bread to go along with the meal. With all that said, it was an ok experience, but nothing to write home about! 😉
