Bar Americain

I absolutely love the Christmas season – everything about it! From the lights, decorations, Santa Claus, Christmas trees, holiday parties, presents, and of course food, there is nothing I love more! Since this was my first Christmas in the city, I wanted to take full advantage of everything the city has to offer including the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, which although my husband made fun of me for going, I thoroughly enjoyed. I went with my girlfriends, and we decided it would be much more fun if we had a few drinks prior to the show, which is how we ended up at Bar Americain. One of my friend’s co-workers recommended it because of its close proximity to Radio City, and I was all about it because of its famous chef, Bobby Flay. Although we just went in for pre-show drinks, we did end up getting a couple appetizers which were fantastic and left me wanting more! I will definitely be returning for a full course meal hopefully sooner than later.

As I mentioned, our main mission was drinks, which I was kind of disappointed in. The cocktail menu left something to be desired, but in all fairness, I really was looking for a holiday inspired cocktail which I did not find. I ended up going with the Dirty Martini, which was fine, but a far cry from my Eggnog Martini I had envisioned.

Anyway, on to the food – we were in a time crunch so while we were deciding, we got the Hot Potato Chips with Blue Cheese Sauce – omg that dip was so creamy and warm, ooey and gooey and good! I even dipped my bread in there so not an ounce would go to waste. The chips were nice and crunchy and the perfect complement to the richness of the cheese dip. After that, we ended up going with the Yellowtail Poke and the Deviled Eggs which were the recommendations of our bartender, and I am so glad we listened to her! My cousin said the Yellowtail was the best she had ever had in her life. It really was so light and refreshing, very citrusy, like a ceviche, on a bed of arugula. As for the Deviled Eggs, they were beautifully presented with remoulade and a smoked shrimp on top. It was perfectly bite sized and perfectly divine!

As I said in the beginning, I will definitely be returning to taste what Bobby Flay has cooked up again soon!
